soapstone care & maintenance

SOAPSTONE TRAITS

Soapstone is quarried all over the world, with the largest supply coming from many areas of Brazil.

The colors, movement, and veining in soapstone vary depending on where the stone is quarried. Soapstone countertops are increasingly popular due to their natural beauty and practicality. Soapstone creates an earthy feel with its sleek appearance and deep colors, and it's a sensible choice for homeowners due to its low maintenance.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Soapstone by nature is a very durable and resistant material, which makes cleaning and upkeep super simple!

In order to clean your soapstone, we recommend simply using a damp cloth or sponge with a gentle soap cleanser – dish soap is the best.

Soapstone is completely nonporous and is extremely dense. It's non-reactive to acids and chemicals so for a deep clean, ANY cleaner will work without harming the stone. *KEEP IN MIND If you are cleaning with harsh chemicals on an oiled stone, the mineral oil will be cleaned off and will need to be re-oiled.

TAKING CARE OF SOAPSTONE IS A BREEZE!

You have two options:

1) You can use the traditional mineral oil process or

2) Try our signature formulated dry wax

MINERAL OIL

After your counter is installed, you can apply a coat of mineral oil to quicken the darkening process. In older to keep this look, we recommend reapplying the mineral oil every week for the first two months. After the first two months we recommend applying the oil only once a month or until the stone is the desired color.

HOW TO APPLY: Apply the mineral oil directly to the stone and use the towel to spread the oil around. You can remove any excess oil with a dry cloth to bring the stone to the desired feel. Mineral oil does not seal or protect the stone; it is only used for aesthetic purposes.

The second option is to use Dorado Dry Wax – an exciting improvement over all previous soapstone finish options.
