Two Types of Soapstone sinks

• Hand Carved – This sink is a single piece of stone, out of which a basin is hollowed.  There are no seams, and can be cut to fit the more common rounded shape. That means that there are no corners to trap dirt, and no seams to leak.
• Fabricated – A fabricated sink is the more traditional of the two and is made from pieces of soapstone assembled together to create the basin.  A fabricated soapstone sink costs less than a carved sink, and offers plenty of room and space.

The color of a Soapstone sink in itself makes it one-of-a-kind.  No soapstone sink looks the same because of the wide variety of colors and textures of the quarried stone.  Freshly quarried soapstone appears cloudy blue-grey in color.  Once it has been exposed to water, grease and oils, the stone changes into the charcoal color it is so well known for.  These liquids cause the stone to oxidize, which darkens the stone’s color and really brings out its natural beauty.
